Over the weekend, in the midst of a heat wave, some very dedicated friends of mine ran an event called Babe Fest – its second annual iteration. Babe Fest is an event to showcase art by women. There was so much amazing work there. One lady had these cat paintings I loved (among other paintings, but I feel very strongly about cats!). Another woman was an incredible thread artist, with gorgeous embroidery on display.
I chose to display a hand-printed satin dress, made to look like the one on the cover of Neutral Milk Hotel’s album Aeroplane Over the Sea. I wore it at a formal Halloween event last year but unfortunately no one caught the reference – wrong crowd I guess.
Here’s me standing by my work, looking super sweaty from biking and set-up!
The following photos of the art were taken by Dave, one of the organizers.
Honestly all around great work. And there were talented performers of music, poetry, and other spoken art all day long. The heat was awful, but I was so glad that didn’t stop the event from being well-attended.
